So much so, in fact, that I suspect he is sitting at his desk, stroking his screen lovingly and gazing at the rose pink background, as I write.
But now, the CEO of the company, Brooke Bryan, has thrown his hat into the ring too! When Simon told me he had passed my details on for consideration, in the unholy scramble for Platinum Status, I was delighted. But to actually be selected....? Well, that was beyond my wildest dreams!
So you can imagine how excited I am to now receive a personal email from Brooke telling me I am the chosen one!!!
He tells me "the decision this month has been really difficult". I can imagine, Brooke, I really can... What with Simon bombarding you with websites for consideration and the current economic downturn, and the coffee machine on the third floor being on the blink again.
It's a wonder the poor love makes it into work in the mornings.
But there's more...."The calibre of the top 50 websites is very high and I had to make my decision based on design, website layout, initiative, ease of use and most importantly for me your marketing potential and whether I feel you have what it takes to become an online success in a very tough time for the ecommerce industry."
I worry about the pair of them to be honest, I really do. Sitting there, in a damp, soulless basement office, desperately scouring the tens of thousands of websites they get a month, looking for that one gem.
I'm wondering if someone has slipped a little something into the office water cooler?
This would at least explain why they think a person with a blank homepage, admittedly in a lovely shade of pink, but not much else, has marketing potential. And why Brooke's decision was based on design, layout and initiative, amongst other attributes... three things, which sadly do not exist yet, on my newly hatched website.

I'm beginning to think that if he really can see all that, in my webpage (and let's call it that, as it is not even a site, yet), then perhaps he should be looking to reduce the levels of whatever medication he may be on.
He signs off with a cheery "I look forward to working with you closely in the future."
Absolutely, my dear, just as soon as you can provide a letter from your doctor confirming your hallucinations are under control. Tell you what... I'll call you.
But it's not all bad news. I do understand why my webpage got top marks for "ease of use".
It has one link. You can click it. It brings you here.
Love ur post! You don't say how it ended. You get the "Platinum" service at n/c?
ReplyDeleteUm, funnily enough, no.... ;o)

I got the same email. This is the biggest bullshit ever. JustHost has been great so far, but this kind of carnival promotion really troubles me.
ReplyDeleteMe too...and my site isn't even up and running yet, it's just a holding page at the moment while I work on clients sites.
ReplyDeleteIt is a bit worrying that they send out these 'competition' awards with no intention of actually providing a prize, they even come complete with 'buy now or miss out' content:
"PS: Every month 1 or 2 people do not check their emails so to allow
for this, the closest 3 website owners who missed out on the top 10
places are emailed after 72 hours if there are still places available."
Anyone can access the platinum page by simply changing the email address they used as part of the link!
This kind of promotion shows child-mindedness and picking on those people who think they've been offered an amazing deal that they wouldn't of paid £95/yr for anyway!
I've sent my resignation letter. Why stay with a host who scams you? Not sure where to look next but have learned a lesson.
ReplyDeleteHey Pearly Jones,
ReplyDeleteNot sure if you're interested but I figure I post my email with JustHost.

Dear JustHost.com,
I received 2 emails last week informing me that my website was picked as this month's top 10 picks (though it's been up for 2). Is this a spam? At first I thought it was an honor to receive such e-mail until I check the web for the validity of this e-mail. I hope this is not one of your scheme to earn money because I find the false statements made through this e-mail quite insulting and misleading. If it is from JustHost.com then it begs the question of how professional is the company. People reported that they receive such e-mail for having incomplete websites (e.g. with just a homepage) or discontinue accounts from a year ago. The competence of the company is being questioned by the people who received the e-mail including myself.
If it is not from JustHost then I am reporting it as a spam and hopefully it can be rectified for the future.

Hello Hung,
Yes, such email was sent by our technical director.
Platinum status is usually only offered to customers with established websites and webmasters as a way of helping them progress even further online.
Today there seemed to be a small hiccup where instead of my top 50 selections being emailed, a few more people were accidentally sent the email congratulating them on a top 50 selection.
This has never happened before and my deepest apologies for any inconvenience. As an apology myself and our CEO Brooke Bryan are going to discuss a way of offering everybody who received this email ‘Platinum Status’ and give you time to get your websites live and running by having no expiry date on your platinum offer. Usually the offer is only open for 72 hours and I understand some people received this who haven’t even got their website ready.
Sorry again if this came as a surprise, but I’m pretty certain we are going to just allow everyone who received this email to go platinum in the next few days.
Hi Hung Le, nice to speak to you again!
ReplyDeleteJust look at them trying to wriggle out of it!
"A small hiccup"...I'll say, sending it purely "accidentally" to every single person registered with them!
At least they said sorry, and maybe learnt their lesson?
But having seen their CEO Brooke Bryan is not, as I'd imagined, a kindly, grey haired, sharp suited chap approaching early retirement. Someone maybe, with a large oak desk in a top floor office, surrounded by pictures of his loved ones, that sort of thing....
But is in fact about 12 years old (judging by his photo buried in their site...) I'd say he was probably sent to bed without any tea and has his Wii confiscated, as a punishment!
A marketing ploy that backfired on them, I'd say!
All the best

Well, after registering a host today I was taken to a page: You've been exclusively selected by our CEO from the thousands of customer this month to be offered Just Host Platinum status, which gives you extended benefits and features which are exclusively offered to platinum members like the ‘Friends and Family Discount Card’. Your account will quite literally be supercharged with add-ons to help you excel your website and its marketing efforts.
ReplyDeleteOnly 10 people are chosen a month and you are one of them, as explained in the email if you decide to not 'Go Platinum' in the next 72 hours your space will unfortunately be offered to the next nearest 3 from the top 50.
I guess EVERYONE gets this special offer. Too bad that on the next page they want to try to charge me for it.
Everyone DOES get that message. JustHost is just trying to trick you into buying their worthless Platinum account. Very disappointing.
ReplyDeleteLook at these links, especially the first one:

I got one of these, too. I don't blame them for trying to make the extra dough, because they are offering a lot of hosting for not too much money - and, their site has good reliability.
ReplyDeleteStill, when I see stuff like this my BS alarm goes off. Someone else can pay for extra things. I don't need them.
I received the same email and was immediately suspicious. Thanks for writing this; it's brilliant.
ReplyDeleteHi everyboby
ReplyDeleteI've got something funiest!
Today I received the famous e-mail then I went to the link to see what it was.
I seeked on the web to know if it really was a special offer or not, came here, read it was not. And as I tried to close the link, they proposed me to decrease the price of 20$!
Ingenious!
Thank you all to save me from doing it!
Sandra
Yes, they are still doing this, I got one today as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your posting. I was happy to receive the platinum email this morning and was ready to give it strong consideration until the part where they wanted to charge me and my great website for it. Will anyone admit to using this? If so did it help? My website is looking pretty good, check it out for yourself. Now thats SEO

Thanks for the heads up. I just got this Gimick and my site has only had 3 visitors since I set it up.
ReplyDeleteGot the same email. It's too bad a generally decent company has to resort to scamming its own customers.
ReplyDeletethe platinum pack is purely so you can hand over money... i use ftp and have a fast internet connection - and i haven't noticed a single difference in the speed of the site or uploading/downloading... it's the slowest host i've been with and probably the most expensive because of the platinum pack - funny, i generally do research before i buy anything but i didn't with them... i know it's all generic generated content but i still did it anyway, thinking there WAS a product at the end of it.
ReplyDeleteafter the first 2 days i added some addon domains and then ran into problems, firstly, they didn't actually register at all - or charge me and they still haven't. = probably a good thing.
i think i'm going to cancel or otherwise do what i can to fix the problem...
i read through their terms and conditions and alot of it makes sense. I'm more concerned that in 8 months they managed to obtain 50,000 customers.
that's a minimum of $1.8mil if it's $3 a month...for a year.
Take into account the 20% of people who have upgraded to platinum and that's $970k.
Then there is domain security and a whole heap of extras so i'm sure they are making plenty of money for offering nothing... you would think running a successful business would be the main aim. makes more sense to me.
i'm sure things will change for them and i'll do my part.
